Religion

Man has always worshipped, it's in our nature. We've worshipped golden statues, the sun, influential men and women and even football teams. However, in order to frighten the shit (and the money) out of the ancients approximately 2,500 years ago the powers to be came up with the daftest yet. They dreamt up a man that lived in the sky, a man that couldn't be seen or heard, a man who could hear every person in the world and understand every language in the world as long as you spoke to him in his special way, it was called praying. The religous men were the worlds greatest marketing genius's. Not only did they convince millions of people to believe in their new god, they convinced the people to give money to help him, they convinced man to build churches, chapels, synagogues and mosques, they convinced them to fight wars, they convinced them to die and even persuaded parents to mutilate the genetalia of their children all in the name of the man in the clouds. Stupid Stupid Stupid. It was understandable, the people back then were thick. There was no education, communication, television or internet and if a man of power told you the earth was flat you believed him. If he told you to cut off the end of your son's willy you said where's the knife. The men of power realised what a good thing they were on. Religion spread, different forms sprung up but the clever ones made sure that at the heart of each new version lay the invisible man, the all seeing all hearing supreme being. What could be better, a person beyond recall. The men of religion were laughing all the way to the bank,as they built their houses of power all around the world. They convinced man that 'god' had created the world around about 8,000 years ago. They said he had made man from dust and the women from the rib of the man and still they thought not to question the holy men. The good books were written, the Bible, the Koran and each charted the wonderful history of their particular religion, stories of miracle's martyrdom, prophets and soothsayers and how god would strike you down if you dared to disobey him and follow his teachings. The Catholic Church is the biggest employer in the world, bigger than BP and Wallmart, they have more employee's than the US government. The Church of England is the biggest landowner in the UK. People kill in the name of their god in some countries Christians kill Christians and young men blow themselves to bits because the holy men tell them that seven virgins await them in heaven. Stupid! stupid! stupid! They make us wear daft hats and skullcaps, masks, turbans and beards! When will we learn? When will we make an informed judgement and believe in our own logical thoughts instead of the thoughts of the so called wisemen all those years ago, the wisemen who told us the earth was flat, its only 6000 years old (even though there is a dinasaur bone 10 million years old in the Natural History museum in London), an old man should be stoned to death if he collects sticks on the Sabbath.... AAAARRRGHHHH!. If god is so good and powerful why does he allow war and disease and corruption and poverty and crime and droughts and famine and death and destruction, tidal waves and earthquakes, oh yeah... AND WHY DOES HE NEED SO MUCH MONEY!!!!!

I'm reliably informed it's actually seventy virgins the suicide bombers expect to be given when they finally get to heaven.
